Faucet Remodel
People think often of low-flow toilet options, which we’ll get to in a moment, but fewer realize that these same themes are available for faucets as well. There are specific low-flow faucets on the market, plus a number of aerator faucets – faucets with circular screened metal discs that reduce water flow.
In addition, look to make repairs on basic items like leaks or cracks, often from shower or tub valves. Just a single drip from one of these areas can cause you to lose gallons of water every week.
Toilet Remodel
Toilet usage makes up roughly 40 percent of all residential water use, but you can reduce this significantly. Low-flow and dual-flush toilets are both options at your disposal that will allow you to use less water, and the latter allows you to choose based on the objects that need flushing. Low-flow toilets use no more than 1.3 gallons per flush, a big reduction compared with conventional models.
Showerhead Change
Another low-flow change option could be the showerhead. The average showerhead averages 4.5 gallons of water per minute, but you can get the same pressure and feel from the showerhead with a low-flow model that nearly cuts this in half, to about 2.5 gallons per minute. With these savings, a family of four can conserve over 20,000 gallons of water every year.
